About the event

Mike Tamburo and Stephanie Wood reunite for a new electroacoustic sonic journey in experimental and experiential ambiance. Mike and Stephanie weave rhythms, drones and tones to create a real-time soundtrack of Spring’s stages – darkness, germination, and emergence into the Sunlight of the Spirit where hope and rejuvenation thrive. Listeners will experience 50+ overtone rich instruments including gongs & tuned metal, string & wind, sound sculptures, found objects and electroacoustic ambience FX.

Ticket price is a sliding scale between $20 and $50, with a suggested amount of $40.

The sound meditation is usually experienced lying down on your back or a similar comfortable position, however you can be seated if you prefer.  Wear comfortable clothing and bring whatever you need to be relaxed for the sound meditation - yoga mat, blanket, pillow, water, eye mask, bolster, etc.  The studio also has some mats and blankets available in case you forget or don't have any.

About Mike Tamburo:

Mike Tamburo is a world-renowned musician, composer, artist and educator. He is known and loved for his transformational live concerts performed on his personally curated set of gongs, bells and other metal instruments.  A lifelong multi-instrumentalist, Tamburo has focused his talents on metal percussion instruments, string instruments (hammered dulcimer, guitar, zither, shahi baaja), as well as electronic instruments (synths, looping).

Since 1994, Tamburo has shared more than 2,000 concerts and workshops. He has recorded over 70 albums, both solo and in collaboration with Crown of Eternity, Meisha, Arco Flute Foundation, Psychic Frost, Brother Ong and more, ranging from epic gong music to ecstatic and transcendental string music, as well as folk, drone, space rock, ambient, mantra music and sometimes unclassifiable sounds. This man loves music in all its forms!

He teaches gong music, both in person and online with School of Gong. He is also a part of the far-reaching ethnomusicology trio, Dig Deeper, with Mitch Nur and Thomas Orr Anderson. Their online classes have explored countless musical concepts with a focus on the cultural and personal uses of sound for healing, meditation, trance, ecstatic states, relaxation, self transformation, perception, psycho-acoustics, scientific discovery, time and community.

An early adoptee of meditation, Tamburo’s music offers space for journeying, self-exploration and deep introspection. During many of his early performances, he experienced altered states of consciousness and out of body experiences. To understand these experiences, he explored kundalini yoga, energy work, the therapeutic use of sound and how sound impacts consciousness, human perception and self healing. His love for long sustained drones, overtones and psychoacoustics continues to inspire him to explore music in further directions. Tamburo is also an interdisciplinary sound artist, instrument builder, video artist, sound therapist, writer and meditation teacher.

About Stephanie Wood

Stephanie Wood is an experimental electroacoustic sound artist, sacred & therapeutic sound practitioner, educator and healing justice activist. With a plethora of instruments, gongs/tuned metal, sound sculpture, found objects and sound FX she incorporates surrounding soundscape, silence, and collective participation in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings.

Some sound sessions center in supporting harmony, healing, creativity and connection. Others center in the weird and wonderful world of experimental sound track ambiance music for The Arts (e.e.,g dance, theater and film). Stephanie is a former composer and orchestrator for Guru Gayatri equinox & solstice events. She’s engaged in diverse creative improvisational collaborations including Seattle’s DAIPANbutoh (Japanese avant garde dance) and various experimental musicians including improv group “Kin of The Moon”, Leanna Keith (flute and Taiko percussion), Jim Knodle (trumpet) and many others.

Her creative influences include John Cage, Harry Partch, Karen Stackpole, Bart Hopkins, Anarchestra and Swans. Her spiritual influences include Tibetan Bon, Southern Mexico tradition, Hazrat Inayat Khan, Lama Rod Owens and Rev angel Kyodo Williams. Pauline Oliveros is her “patron saint” of sonic awareness.

Stephanie also strongly believes in the power of creating spaces for "radical respite", individual and collective resilience - especially in marginalized communities. She’ll take any opportunity to expand access to immersive gong-centered sonic experiences, experimentation and collective participation with musically and non-musically inclined.  She loves co-creating soul-full spaces with new people and new visions.
